Our Courses

Kudos offers a comprehensive introduction to competitive speech and debate through our Survey classes, which introduce students to 20+ speech and debate events and help them build key skills for competitive success. Each event is taught over 2-4 weeks and culminates in an in-class competition, modeled after real tournaments. Students will also have the chance to judge rounds and provide feedback to peers, fostering both skill development and self-evaluation.

In addition to speech and debate, we offer leadership courses that complement these skills, as well as introductory classes for younger students to develop performance skills, giving them a head start in competition. We also offer specialized writing courses to further enhance students' communication and critical thinking abilities.

Storytelling

This course introduces younger students to the art of oral storytelling—a foundational public speaking skill that blends performance, interpretation, and imagination. Through activities like out-loud reading, story retelling, and puppet act-outs, students build confidence in speaking, develop organization and sequencing skills, and learn to engage an audience with expression and clarity.

Curriculum themes include Aesop’s Fables and Morals, Fairy Tales and Role Play, Children’s News, Free Association, and Tongue Twisters—each designed to strengthen both communication and character in a fun, age-appropriate way.

Survey Level I : Communications Pro

This foundational course introduces 3rd – 8th grade students to ten different speech and debate events, thoughtfully adapted for their age group (grades 3–5 or 6–8). The speech curriculum covers interpretation, impromptu, and writing-based formats, while debate training includes impromptu debate, congressional debate, and a simplified introduction to public forum debate.

This course is the perfect starting point for your child’s Kudos journey. Students build a strong foundation in public speaking and debate in a rigorous yet fun and supportive environment, participating in classroom competitions. Along the way, they develop the confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills that will benefit them in advanced debate—and far beyond.

Survey Level II : No Prep Events

Students who complete Level 1 of our Elementary Survey course are eligible to advance into this second-level class, designed to strengthen and refine their foundational skills in both speech and debate.

Our Level 2 Survey course focuses more deeply on four key "no-prep" events: Impromptu Speaking, SPAR (Spontaneous Argumentation), Extemporaneous Speaking, and Congressional Debate. Students will learn to deliver more structured, well-reasoned arguments and improve their confidence, clarity, and critical thinking through repeated practice and advanced drills.

This course also marks an exciting milestone: students will participate in their first competition outside the classroom through an end-of-year tournament, included as part of the course. It’s a valuable opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world setting and gain experience competing against students from other schools.

This course serves as strong preparation for students who are interested in joining our competition teams in the future.

Creative Writing

This course helps students strengthen their writing skills through creative exploration. Students learn and practice literary devices, experiment with different writing techniques, and expand their ability to express original ideas with clarity and imagination.

Designed especially for younger writers, the course encourages students to bring their thoughts, experiences, and creativity to life through storytelling, personal narratives, poetry, and more—building both skill and confidence in written expression.

Speed Writing

This course introduces students to the technique of speed writing—an approach that emphasizes getting ideas down quickly by minimizing distractions and perfectionism. By writing continuously under time limits, students learn to overcome writer’s block, strengthen their brainstorming abilities, and generate strong first drafts with greater ease.

Speed writing helps students build confidence, fluency, and efficiency in written expression—skills that support both academic writing and creative thinking.
